I love words.

I love their power to make people do things.

I've done lots of things in my life, but I've always loved writing.

I've studied the cognitive effects of language and how words can inspire action.

When it comes to linguistics, I like what Wittgenstein, Pinker, Chomsky and Crystal have to say.

When it comes to creative writing, I like the way Carver, Hamsun, Dostoevsky and Lowry do things.



Why Don't You Have an Ultramodern Website?

Well I would argue that I do, but I see what you mean.

It's getting increasingly hard to impress people with digital-trickery; people have seen it all before – and probably done better.

Don't get me wrong, I love technology and innovation, and still get excited when I see clever stuff on a screen.

I understand why a design agency or a technology consultancy might need a slick-looking website, but I'm a copywriter; I work with words.

For me, it's the message, and the concept that guides that message, that really persuades people to buy what you're selling.

Anyway, I'm inclined to agree with Ogilvy. Black text on a white background always wins.
